Worcester Common Restoration
The Worcester Common Restoration will consist of potentially three phases of construction funded through Land and Water Conservation funds, matching City of Worcester funds and Federal Highway Administration/MassHighway TEA-21 funds. The estimated cost of the Worcester Common Restoration is $5,800,000.00
Phase One of the Worcester Common Restoration Improvements will focus on the Common “Proper.” Improvements will include demolishing the reflecting pool, decorative fencing at the Common perimeter and sidewalk improvements along Franklin Street, demolition / site preparation, common pathways, site furnishings including decorative benches and trash receptacles, landscaping, lawns, irrigation system, site utilities and period site lighting.
Phase Two of the Worcester Common Restoration will include installation of the bike pavilion and visitor’s center, ice skating rink, mechanical systems, Front Street sidewalk improvements and all other related site improvements.
Phase Three of the Worcester Common Restoration includes the complete restoration of areas surrounding City Hall including sidewalks and related pedestrian spaces located adjacent to Franklin, Front and Main Streets and the installation of informational kiosks and decorative bus stops.
This project is funded by and through City Council approved loan authorizations with assistance from Congressman James P. McGovern, third congressional district, in obtaining U.S. Department of the Interior, National Park Service - Land and Water Conservation Funds, as administered through the Massachusetts Executive office of environmental affairs, division of conservation services.
