Pianist Wu Han and cellist David Finckel, artistic directors of the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center, along with Emerson String Quartet violinist Philip Setzer, will bring a performance of Beethoven and Schubert to Worcester in May.
The Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center, (CMS) is one of eleven constituents of Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts, the largest performing arts complex in the world. The Chamber Music Society has its home in Alice Tully Hall the finest hall in the world for chamber music. Through its performance, education, and recording/broadcast activities, it draws more people to chamber music than any other organization of its kind.
Named Musical America’s Musician of the Year, pianist Wu Han ranks among the most esteemed and influential classical musicians in the world today. Leading an unusually multifaceted artistic career, she has risen to international prominence as a concert performer, recording artist, educator, arts administrator, and cultural entrepreneur. Wu Han appears regularly at many of the world’s most prestigious concert series and venues, as both soloist and chamber musician: she tours extensively with cellist David Finckel, and in piano trios with Philip Setzer. Wu Han, with David Finckel, serves as Artistic Director of The Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center.
Cellist David Finckel’s multifaceted career as concert performer, recording artist, educator, arts administrator, and cultural entrepreneur distinguishes him as one of today’s most influential classical musicians. He is a recipient of Musical America’s Musicians of the Year award. David appears extensively as recitalist with pianist Wu Han, and in piano trios with violinist Philip Setzer.
Violinist Philip Setzer is a founding member of the Emerson String Quartet. An acclaimed soloist, Mr. Setzer was the Bronze Medalist in the 1976 Queen Elisabeth Competition, and has appeared with major orchestras throughout the United States. He has an active performing schedule, both with the Emerson String Quartet, as well as with cellist David Finckel and pianist Wu Han.
