Arts District Master Plan

The Master Plan for the Worcester Arts District presents a variety of recommendations on physical design improvements, cultural and economic development opportunities, in the context of an overall urban design vision for the district. These recommendations are the result of extensive community outreach, involvement, and economic analysis. Personal interviews, focus groups, and three, well-attended community input meetings were held with representatives of the art and cultural, business, political, economic development, educational and neighborhood communities. This inclusive planning process ensured public approval of the Plan. As evidence of the broad-based support for this initiative, $65,000 was successfully raised from a variety of sources including the City, Greater Worcester Community Foundation, Massachusetts Cultural Council Cultural Economic Development Grant Program, Worcester Cultural Coalition, five private foundations, Worcester Cultural Commission, numerous individual and corporate donors, and the federal Economic Development Administration.
